Sugrrva Vekateshwara Temple

Sugrrva Vekateshwara Temple.

Sugrrva Vekateshwara Temple Dedicated to one of the most important figures from the Hindu epic Ramayana, the Sugreeva Venkateshwara Temple on Bangalore's Balepet Main Road has great religious significance. The temple has a six feet tall statue of Sugreeva, the monkey king and good friend of Lord Rama, in the folded hand position. At a casual glance at the idol, you would think it is Lord Hanuman, but on closer inspection, you will notice two teeth sticking out of the mouth, distinguishing Sugreev from Lord Hanuman. Besides, in the sanctum sanctorum or garbhagriha of the shrine, there is an idol of Lord Venkateswara on a pedestal. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/web-stories/travel.

The Sugreeva Venkateshwara Temple is located in the Balepet area and houses the idols of Sugreeva and Venkateshwara. The inner sanctum of the temple has an idol of Lord Venkateshwara placed on a plinth. Idol of Sugreeva which is about six feet tall and looks like Hanuman. The long teeth on both sides of the mouth are the only thing that differentiates her from Hanuman.

According to legend, Sugreeva and an army of monkeys helped Lord Rama during the war in Lanka, where Lord Rama defeated and killed the demon king Ravana. But the temple is very unique in the sense that it is dedicated to Sugreeva, as I said earlier, but also has idols of Sugreeva and Lord Venkateshwara (Lord Vishnu).

Sugrrva Vekateshwara Temple

According to local legends, the statue of Sugreeva was submerged in the Kempambudhi tank and one of the devotees had a dream in which he was told to lift it out of the water and place it in the temple. According to locals, Kempegowda-I had this temple built for the Uppara community.
