The statue of Gommateshwara Temple is a 57-foot-high monolithic statue on Vindhyagiri Hill of Shravanbelagola in Karkala in the Indian state of Karnataka

The statue of Gommateshwara Temple is on a single block of granite. However, Gommateshwara Temple is the second tallest monolithic statue in the ancient world.


History Of

Gommateshwara 

The Gommateshwara Temple statue is indicated to the Jain figure Bahubali and symbolizes the Jain rules about peace, non-violence, avoiding negative thoughts, and simple living. 

Besides Statue was constructed around 983 CE in the Western Ganga dynasty. Gommateshwara Temple second tallest free-standing statue in the world.

Statue 

Not only The idol of Lord Bahubali carved out of a single block of granite is 57 feet statue But also is the second tallest statue of Bahubali in the whole world. 

The idol is placed on a 5 feet pedestal and enclosed by a cloistered prakaram. Eventually, In the entry room of Gommateshwara, a few sculptures of Kirtankaras are displayed.

On the opposite side of the temple is a manastambha with an image of Yaksha. The statue is depicted in its posture with curly hair ringlets, large ears, and tallest knees. 

Another idol’s weight is over 80 tonnes. It is located 300 feet above sea level.
