PROJECTS

In 2010, an important decision was taken to grant the status of a tiger reserve to Chandoli National Park and Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary..

The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has important catchment areas. Many springs as well as the Varana and Koyna rivers originate from here.

the Warna and Koyna rivers have been constructed dams and a important hydroelectric project is operational on the Koyna waters.

Agriculture in West-South Maharashtra is dependent on this water. the area of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve is surrounded by semi-evergreen forests.

Tigers exist here. this area is considered very safe for the existence of tigers.

However, tiger sightings are rare here as this is a high hill range region.

Interestingly, this project is the first tiger project outside Vidarbha.

Together with 317.670 sq km of Chandoli National Park and 423.550 sq km of Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, this area has been declared as Sahyadri Tiger Reserve.

Along with tiger, animals such as gawa, chital, sambar, deer, leopard are also seen here.
