National youth day or Yuva divas is celebrated on 12th January with great joy and programs in India every year on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda the maker of modern India.

 

      The Government of India declared the day National Youth Day in the year 1984 and since 1985 this event is celebrated in India every year to honor Swami Vivekananda.

 

      Swami Vivekananda was one of India’s greatest youth leaders and followers. A passionate student of Sri Rama Krishna Paramahansa, he was an important force in the resurrection of Hinduism in India. Know more about this great man, National Youth Day, its history, and its significance here.

History of National Youth Day  

        In the year 1984, The Government of India declared and decided to observe the birthday of Swami Vivekananda on 12th January as National Youth Day every year. Since 1985 it is celebrated every year in India to inspire and encourage the young Indian youths of the country towards the way of life and ideals of the Swami Vivekananda.

       Yuva Divas or National Youth Day is the in the year 1984 celebrated 

 day for the youths of our country. Youths or students celebrated in schools and colleges by performing the parade, inspirational speeches of Vivekananda, singing, presentations, drawing competitions, seminar, sports, Lectures and writings related to the ideas of Vivekananda.

 

        Also, at various schools, colleges it is celebrated by performing the parade, speech on Swami Vivekananda, recitations, songs, conventions, essay-writing competition, seminar, etc. To inspire the Indian youth’s writings and lectures of Swami Vivekananda are also performed by the students. Several competitions 

are also performed not only in India but outside the country to promote education, trust among youths, etc. to 

 

Why is National Youth Day celebrated on 12 January?

        National Youth Day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. He was a social reformer, philosopher, and thinker. The main objective behind the celebration is to propagate the philosophy and the ideals of Swami Vivekananda for which he lived and worked. No doubt he was a great inspiration for all National Youth of India. Across the country, several functions are organized in schools, colleges,  etc.
