In Pune, Sinhagad Fort—formerly called Kondhana—is the most well-known and well-liked fort.It is situated in the taluka-Haveli village of Donaje. Situated on a hill 1290 meters high, it is 25 miles from Pune. Tanaji Malusare, the valiant and devoted general of Chh. Shivaji, engaged the Mughal army in combat here by himself. When he learned about his passing, Chh. Shivaji said. Chh. Shivaji renamed this "Kondhana" fort as "Sinhagad" after him because he said, "We won the fort but lost the lion" (Gad Ala Pan Sinha Gela).
India's freedom struggle has benefited greatly from the presence of Sinhagad Fort. This fort served as a summer hideaway for Bal Gangadhar Tilak, often known as 'The Father of Indian Unrest'. This is the location of Mahatma Gandhi's important meeting with Tilak following his return from South Africa. His bust is near the front door of the bungalow.
Even if you park at the fort’s highest point, you’ll still have to make your way up and down 250 odd stairs.
