The Palamau Tiger Reserve is the only one in the Indian state of Jharkhand and one of the original nine tiger reserves in India. Part of the Betla National Park is the Palamau tiger reserve.
The biodiversity of the Palamau Tiger Reserve is crucial. Bamboo groves, mixed deciduous woods, and sal forests make up the majority of the project area. Three significant rivers, the Koel, Burha, and Auranga, have their watersheds in the reserve zone.

Palamu Tiger Reserve is located in Palamau district 25 km away from city headquarter Daltonganj which is also the nearest railhead and offers trains to all important cities of India.

History of Palamau Tiger Reserve:-
When Project Tiger was launched in India in 1973 to protect our nation’s vulnerable resources, Palamau Tiger Reserve was created. On the Chhotanagpur plateau in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, on the western side, sits the Tiger Reserve.
Under the Indian Forests Act, the region in Jharkhand’s Palamu District was designated a protected area in 1947. The area was once utilized for camping and cattle grazing, and it was very prone to forest fires. The Palamau Tiger Reserve was established in this region in 1974.
