Introduction

The coffee was The Kawal Tiger Reserve is located in the northeastern region of Telangana (old Adilabad district), bordering Maharashtra on one side and the Godavari River on the other.

In 2012, the Indian government designated Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve.

It is known for its diverse vegetation and wildlife . The rivers Godavari and Kadam, which flow south of the sanctuary, are caught by this shelter.

Total Area: 2015.44 sq km, of which 893 sq km is the main area.

The districts of Nirmal, Mancherial, Adilabad and KB Asifabad all belong to the Kawal Tiger Reserve (KTR).

It has a southern Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest and is in the center of the Indian Tiger Landscape.

 

History :

The Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1965 in Telangana, India’s Adilabad district

It was designated a tiger reserve in 2012 and given the name Kawal Tiger Reserve.

The 893.23 km2 reserve is well-known for its abundant biodiversity and for providing a home for a number of endangered species, such as tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and Indian vultures.

Numerous tribes who have coexisted peacefully with the forest for centuries also call the forest home.

One of the most significant tiger habitats in India is the Kawal Tiger Reserve, which is also known as a hotspot for biodiversity.

Animals in Kawal tiger reserve

The wildlife in Kawal is typical of the Deccan Plateau. Nilgai, chousinga, chinkara, blackbuck, sambar, spotted deer, wild dog, wolf, jackal, fox, tiger, leopard, and jungle cat are examples of significant wild animals.

673 other plant species complement the large teak and bamboo woods in the reserve.

The various topography, habitat, and climatic conditions support a wide variety of wild animal species, including animals like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Gaur, wild dog, and sloth bear.

Antelopes and deer represent an unusual mixture of herbivores.

Best Time To Visit :

The winter and summer months, from November to June, are the finest times to visit Kawal Tiger Reserve. It’s simpler to tour the reserve now because the weather is lovely and dry.

Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife, including tigers both during the day and at night when they are more active

The reserve will last from July to October due to the intense rain that falls there.

Due too the damp circumstances, some of the reserve’s roads and trails can also be closed during this time.

Climate of Kawal Tiger Reserve :

Maximum daytime temperatures of above 47 °C during the height of the summer (May) and overnight lows of 6 °C during the winter (December). 1000 mm of rain fall per year on average.

Flora :

Kawal is located in Zone VI of the Deccan Plateau bioregion.

According to Champion and Seth (1968), the core’s forest vegetation is comprised of “Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest: Dry Teak Series and Southern Dry Mixed Deciduous Forests Series.” Along with bamboo, teak is widely distributed.

As many as 673 plant species have been recorded, and the important ones are Anogeissus latifolia, Mitragyna parviflora, Terminalia crenulata, Terminalia arjuna, Boswellia serrata, Sterculia urens, Terminalia belerica, Madhuca indica, Cleistanthus collinus, Lannia coromondilica, Butea monosperma, Calycopteris floribunda, Zizyphus oenophile and Acacia intisia.

Heteropogon contortus, Apluda mutica, Saccharum spontaneum, Oplismenus composites, Dicanthium annulatum, and Themeda species are a few of the significant grass species.

The weed species Cassia tora, Hytis suovalens, Cleome viscosa, and Lantana camara have grown significantly in the reserve.

Fauna :

The wildlife of Kawal is diverse and typical of the Deccan Plateau.

The main wild species found in the reserve are nilgai, chousinga, chinkara, black buck, sambar, spotted deer, wild dog, wolf, jackal, fox, tiger, leopard, and jungle cat. The reserve is located in the Indo-Malayan zone of the zoo.

In addition, there are 34 species of reptiles, of which 14 belong to the order Testudines, 13 to the order Sauria, and 7 to the order Serpentes. There are also 23 orders of insects, 10 species of amphibians belonging too three families—Bufonidae, Ranidae, and Rhacophoridae—and 23 orders of insects.

There are 75 species of mammals in the orders of Insectivore (2), Chiroptera (25), Primates (4), Carnivora (17), Artiodactyla (10), Rodentia (15), and Lagomorpha (2), along with up too 260 species of birds in 18 genera and 51 families.

How To Reach  Kawal Tiger Reserve :

There are numerous ways too get to the Kawal Tiger Reserve, which is situated in the Telangana district of Adilabad. To get too the reserve, try one of these methods:

By air:

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, which is around 220 miles from Kawal Tiger Reserve, is the closest airport. Visitors can take a taxi or a bus to get to the reserve from the airport.

By train:

The Nizamabad railway station, located around 70 miles from the reserve, even though in the closest rail hub.

Visitors can takes Usually  a taxi or a bus to get to the reserve from the railway station.

 By road:

Kawal Tiger Reserve is easily accessible by vehicle or bus and has good road connectivity.

There are frequent bus services between Hyderabad and Nizamabad, where guests can take a taxi or a local bus to get to the reserve.

Conclusion :

On October 21st, 2018, visiting this woodland was a fantastic experience.

It is a lush, very dense woodland. Safari travels along incredibly winding paths, giving everyone the impression that they are in a dense forest.

Small ponds and tall trees. We were fortunate to observe some Nilgai and a few deer.

This sanctuary is not one to visit if your goal is to see wild animals.

Here, you may take in the lush vegetation and flora. We had a terrific experience and would love to come back.
