What does G7 stand for?
Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They do meeting for a three-day summit to discuss global affairs in the southern Italian region of Puglia (Apulia).
Where is the G7 summit 2024?
Italy will host the G7 Summit in Puglia, Italy, in June. The 50th G7 Summit is being held from June 13 to 15, 2024, in Fasano, Apulia, Italy, with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with EU representation.
About the G7 Summit.
The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders of the G7 member in order of rotating presidency and the European Union (EU). At the G7 Summit, the leaders of the G7, which shares fundamental values such as freedom, democracy and human rights. Exchange candid views on important challenges the international community is facing at that time, such as the global economy, regional affairs and various global issues, and issue a document as an outcome of such discussions.

The Group was established as a platform for economic and financial cooperation in response to the 1973 energy crisis. The first Summit of Heads of State and Government was held in 1975 in Rambouillet, France. It included France, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Italy. In 1976, with the admission of Canada, the G7 took its current configuration. Since 1977, representatives of the European Economic Community, now the European Union, also participate in the work of the Group.

Importance of India In G7 Summit.

Former Italian Sherpa for G8 and G20 and Ambassador Giampiero Massolo stressed that India is a prominent country and a huge democracy.
Speaking to ANI, Ambassador Massolo further emphasized that India is among the most important countries in the world.
“India, it’s a prominent country. It’s among the most important countries in the world, a huge democracy. So everybody counts on India as a stabilizing factor. You have an important position in the global south. You are pledging towards a multipolar world,” he told ANI.

They called for expanding commercial ties in clean energy, manufacturing, Space, S&T, telecom, AI and critical minerals to build resilient supply chains. In this context, they welcomed the recent signing of a MoU on Industrial Property Rights (IPR). This MoU provides a framework for cooperation on patents, designs and trademarks.
