Brazilian Independence Day (1822): September 7, 2022. Following more than three centuries under Portuguese rule, Brazil achieved its independence in 1822, maintaining a monarchical system of government until the abolition of slavery in 1888 and the subsequent proclamation of the republic by the military in 1889. The  Flag of the Republic of the United States (US) of Brazil country preceded the official flag and flew for only four days. Thus It is very similar to America’s ‘Stars and Stripes.’
