Padmanabh Swami Mandir

The Padmanabh Swami Mandir is a Hindu Temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of the state of Kerala, India. The name of the city of ‘Thiruvananthapuram’ is a combination of Malayalam and Tamil.

Thiruvananthapuram translates to “The City of Lord Ananta” Ananta is a form of Vishnu. Padmanabh Swami Mandir is the guardian deity of the Travancore royal family.

The guardian Maharaja Of Travancore, Now a trustee of the Mandir is Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma.


History Of

Padmanabh Swami Mandir

Some extant Hindu texts including the Vishnu Puran, Brahma Purana, Varaha Purana, Skanda Purana, Padma Purana, Vayu Purana, and Bhagavata Purana mention the Padmanabh Swami Mandir.

The Golden Mandir was in realization of the Temple being already brave reacheBesides, The Mandir has been related to the Sangam period literature several times. However Many old historians and scholars are of the Judge that the particular name that the Temple had, “The Golden Temple”. Although A huge annual festival related to the temple is the Navaratri festival.

Finally, The statue of Saraswati Amman, Mun Uditha Nangai, and Kumara Swami are purchased from the Padmanabhapuram Palace,  Suchindram, and Kumarakovil respectively to the Kuthira Malika palace in front of the temple as a procession. 

Further, This festival is for 9 days. Altogether The famous Swathi Sangeethotsavam music festival is held annually during this festival in the Navratri mandapam.

Another festival was named in honor of the Maharajah of Travancore, Thirunal Rama Varma, and is organized by his descendant in the Royal Family, Prince Rama Varma.

Generally, In other centuries, most of the families of Vrishni Kshatriyas traveled to the south, carrying their holy of Lord Balarama and Lord Krishna. Beside they reached the holy land of Sree Padmanabha, and they gave the idol of Balarama, also known as Bhaktadasa.

There were two shrines inside the Padmanabh Swami Mandir, one was Thekkedom, and the Other Thiruvambadi, was the God, Urga Narasimha, and Krishna Swami respectively.

Eventually, Neythasseri Potti constructed the Temple at Budhapuram. Now in the present, this temple Kanyakumari District and this idol was installed there. The Vrishnis gifted the idol of Krishna to Maharaja Udaya Marthanda Varma of Venad.

Another Maharaja constructed a separate shrine, known as Thiruvambadi, on the premises of the Temple for this idol. The Thiruvambadi shrine enjoys an independent status. Thiruvambadi has its own namaskara mandapam, bali stones and flagmast.

The Divine Charioteer of Arjuna is the warrior prince and one of the main protagonists that appear in the story of Mahabharata. 

The two-armed granite idol, with one hand holding the whip and the other resting on the left thigh holding the conch close to it, is in a standing posture. 

There are also shrines for Lord Rama accompanied by his consort Sita, brother Lakshmana and Hanuman, Vishwaksena, Vyasa, and Ashwatthama the Chiranjivis, Ganapati, Sasta, and Kshetrapala.

 However, Grand idols of Garuda and Hanuman stand with folded hands in the Valiya baliklal area.

In Padmanabh Swami Mandir Entry Proclamation, only those who lie in the Hindu trust are permitted entry to the temple and devotees have to strictly follow the dress code.

Further Men wear “married” with “angavastram” and women wear a sari.
