Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since we've had a food related post. So in this post, I'm going to share the photos I took of a delicious meal at 'The Marina', a seafood restaurant located on College Road, in the coastal city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
the entrance to the restaurant…
You can dine either downstairs or on the first floor of the restaurant after choosing what you want to enjoy from the variety of fresh seafood kept on ice downstairs. The restaurant opens at 7pm in the evening, and since we happened to be the first, we could see live crabs in a tall glass box.
During our trip to Indonesia in 2014, we stopped in Jimbaran, Bali, enjoyed the beach and as a bonus we had dinner there with fresh seafood to choose from. As it was an open beach, the eye-catching display was on a larger scale compared to this restaurant. Jimbaran is a beach converted into a tourist spot where you can hear the waves splashing while you eat.
From the options available for the six of us, we chose Hamoor fish, Indian salmon, fresh tiger prawns and crab for both starters and main courses. We were already introduced to Hamoor fish which belongs to the Middle East region in UAE so I wanted to try it in Chennai as I had not had it since I left UAE last year. After selecting the seafood, we settled on the first floor.
From the selected seafood, they prepare curries or appetizers in the Chettinad or Tandoori style or in the Chinese or Mediterranean style, where the fish is steamed together with fine spices, according to the customer's wishes.
The staff at the restaurant suggested we try the crab in two different ways. So we had half of the crab dry-boiled with spices, similar to the consistency of 'puttu', one of my favorite South Indian breakfasts, and the other half in a thick sauce.
Of the two crab dishes, my vote goes to the crab in thick sauce. It was a great combo with Kal Dosai/Traditional Cast Iron Pan Pancakes which we got along with our main course.
