Founded by Fathers of the French Foreign Mission, affiliated to the University of Madras as a Second Grade College.

1925
The main building can accommodate 350 students.

The University of Madras has granted the institution the status of First Class College

The French Foreign Mission transferred the administration to the Jesuits

After the reorganization of the state, the College was affiliated to Mysore University

The College is granted permanent affiliation to Bangalore University

The business section and the Evening College section were separated

The faculty of St Josephs College consists of researchers of high repute in both the sciences and social sciences. The majority of faculty members in all departments hold Ph.D. and actively continues research. A unique aspect of the research activities at the College are the interdepartmental initiatives for continuing research. This led to an interdisciplinary approach by combining knowledge streams from different disciplines in an exciting way.

The College currently has many major and minor research programs active and is a recognized research center affiliated to Bangalore University. There are currently 13 Ph.D. guides and 19 researchers working under them. The faculty members have earned PhD degrees from their research work conducted in prestigious institutes like IISc, IITs in India and also in foreign universities.

In the last 5 years, the faculty members have published around 57 research papers in national and international journals.
