A private institution in Porur, Chennai, India is called Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), formerly known as Sri Ramachandra University (SRU), originally known as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC & RI). With almost 6000 students, SRIHER is made up of nine member colleges and faculties. September 11, 1985 saw the founding of SRIHER by the Sri Ramachandra Education & Health Trust, led by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar. Originally established as a medical college, it received university status in September 1994.
