About Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in Pune
Late Dr. D. G. Kelkar's one-man collection (1896 - 1990) is dedicated to his only son 'Raja' who passed away before his eyes. The collection consists of about 22,000 precious artifacts that reflect the daily life of India. It is a testament to the creative spirit of man - the spirit that brings beauty into the mundane and romance into the ordinary.
Dr. D.G Kelkar was a man who was obsessed with art. For over sixty years, Dr. Kelkar travelled across the country, visiting villages, tribal villages, grand temples, humble huts, forgotten attics, and folk fares - all in the name of collecting - always collecting.
