It claimed that there is no evidence or research to claim that these bat coronaviruses can cause disease in humans.

  • GoI procures pulses, oilseeds from states during lockdown

The Government has started procurement of pulses and oilseeds from states during the nationwide lockdown. National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed), the central procurement agency, has purchased over 1.21 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds costing around Rs.595.52 crore. It has benefitted around 90,000 farmers.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to allow more digital kiosks to function in rural areas during the nationwide lockdown. Digital kiosks are commonly known as the Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the country. The information was passed by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

For 2020-21, Indian economy is expected to grow 1.5% to 2.8% which is lower than the 5.4 – 4.1% estimate of October 2019. For FY 2019-20 (ended on March 31, 2020), it expected a growth of 4.8% to 5% which is trimmed by 1.2 – 1% estimate made in October 2019.

What is a CoO?
This is a document that states in which country a product is produced or good is manufactured, contains information about the product, its destination and the country of exporting & helps determine whether certain goods are eligible for import or are subject to goods obligations. An exporter has to submit CoO at the importing country’s landing port & is important to claim duty concessions under FTAs.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has started distributing pensions at the doorstep to 58,44,240 beneficiaries with an objective to offer them held and to avoid the spread of coronavirus. The state used 2.5 lakh volunteers to eliminate the need for pensioners to step out of their homes.

  • Centre to treat Medical devices as Drugs from 1 April

The Central government announced that all medical devices that are sold in India will be treated as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The move came into effect from 1 April 2020. The instructions were issued by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.

  • RBI introduced relief measures to deal with coronavirus pandemic

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced relief measures for state governments, exporters. The Central Bank also provides relief to banks’ capital concerns.
RBI Measures: 1) RBI extended the deadline for realization and repatriation period of export which is made up to or on 31 July. The period of export has been relaxed for up to 15 months from 9 months (at present).
